Let's Hear It For The Boys!

Happy August, Bombshell Stamps Fans! Here's the scoop on the August Hump Day Hop theme. This month's theme is "Let's Hear it for the Boys." You can interpret that as you like, but I can assure you that you will be singing that oh-so-popular 80's song from Deniece Williams for the next week. You're welcome. (insert evil laugh here.) It's so wonderful to have so many hoppers to not only show off some great creations, but to also cap-off Bombshell's 5th Anniversary celebration. I have to say it's been an honor to be this Ms. August and had a great time. I hope I've managed to show off the fabness of Bombshell Stamps. :-) So thank you Bombshells - it's been a blast!

That said, let's get on with the show! Here's my creation for the hop:

I used Bombshell Angel and dressed her up in a motorcycle outfit. (love her, she's so versatile) She's colored with Copics. The background is embossed foil, and then I inked it with alcohol inks and sanded it. I also used some glassine and stained it black to make it look like black leather although I don't think you can see it real well.

So now it's time to move on and check out Laura's creation. Don't forget to leave some love!

Technique Tags and Copic Class

Hi All!

Welcome to the beginning of the school year! (At least for us....tomorrow!) I wanted to give you a quick update and a visual of my upcoming September classes.

First we have our super fun Technique Tags, Tuesday, September 4 at 12:30 or 6:00. We will be using a technique with the Distress Ink re-inkers to do a layered spritzing tag and creating a stamped emboss on our other tag.

September's Copic class will be butterflies - this will involve blending 2 colors together. It's a beautiful technique for butterflies, flowers, sunsets or skies. Practice your flicking/feathering technique - it will be beneficial to your blending.

Colors used: YG01, YG03, BG01, BG02, V12, V15, RV13, RV14. The evening class will be Monday, September 10 @6:00 and the afternoon class will be on Tuesday, September 11 @ 12:30.

As if that's not enough, Scrap Pink is back! Woo Hoo! This year we will have this fun crop from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brookville Community Center, Saturday, September 29th! Join us for a fun day out with friends and help a good cause. All money will stay local this year!

Give us a call at Scrap 'N Friends to sign up for a class or for more information.

Until next time!
Jodi :-)

Bombshells and Glassine

Hi All! It's me again! I know right? This makes at least 3 posts this week, whatever will we do? I don't normally do tutorials on here, but I thought I'd do all little somthin, somthin' since I'm this month's pin-up for the great gals at Bombshell Stamps.

I thought I'd share a technique I love....glassine! Tim Holtz introduced this last year and I LOVE this stuff. It really lends itself to vintage work. You can emboss it, stamp it, use Perfect Pearls on it, stain it, sand it,  you can even use Copics on it. Today I'm going to share the stamping, staining and distressing it.

You'll need a craft sheet (never leave home without it), this can get messy, archival ink, Distress Stain, a heat tool, a fabulous stamp set (I used my new fav Sugar Skulls) and of course some glassine.

 1. Cut your glassine to the size you want and stamp your image onto it with the archival ink. (You can use other color inks instead of black as long as it's archival.)

 2. You want to heat set your ink. Heating up the glassine embeds the ink into the paper by heating up the waxy coating.

 3. Next I like to ink my edges with Distress Inks and a blending tool. This step is optional.

 4. Now you get to have some fun and wad up the glassine. Squish it good so it has some nice wear to it. I love how it looks when you flatten it back out - like an old map or leather.

5. Take your favorite Distress Stain color and wipe it all over the glassine then take a paper towel and wipe the paper down to get the stain that doesn't stick off. The stain will get into all those "cracks" you made squishing it up. Using a brown will really make it look like leather. Since I'm going for a sort of Halloween feel, I used purple.

6. Finally, put it together on a card. It's great for a background to add some texture.

I hope you give it a try, then have your own fun with this great versatile paper. Enjoy!

Sugar Skulls and Perfect Pearls

Hola mi Amigos!
Ms. August here, I wanted to share a groovy little card I put together using my fun "Sugar Skulls" stamp set! I once saw someone use them for a really cool background - they had heat embossed them in either black or clear on black paper and it looked soooo cool (sorry I can't remember who it was, but I'd like to give credit where credit it due, please let me know :-). At any rate I decided to take it a step further. I embossed them on black, in black and then painted them using Perfect Pearls and a water brush. I love they way the turned out! That's why the card design is even more simple than usual, I didn't want to cover my skulls too much.

It's very simple to do:
1. Take a bit of the Perfect Pearls powder and put it on your craft sheet. (you won't need much at all, a little goes a looooonnnnnggg way).
2. Take a water brush and get the Perfect Pearls wet, getting on the brush just like paint.
3. Paint your image - since it's heat embossed, it's easy to stay in the lines. If you do get some of the emboss, just wipe it off with your finger, it will come right off.

Tada! I hope you decide to give it a whirl!

Until Next Time,
Jodi aka Ms. August :-)
